Pequeñas victorias

This blog will track my development in my endeavours to learn Spanish. I am 4,5 months into my year in Spain, and so far I have mainly just managed to drop out of the Spanish course I was supposed to follow at uni back home. Instead I have spent more time, though hardly enough, using the language in every day life. I do my shopping in Spanish, I follow Spanish news on tv and I try to read a bit.

I have probably learned a fair bit just day today, building vocabulary, but with 6 months left I feel I need to step up and really make an effort to get as much Spanish in as I can possibly manage before I go back to Norway.

In this blog I will reflect on the small victories, hence the name, meaning the little things I do and learn every day, and by doing so I will be able to see how much it adds up to in the end.

For example I used Spanish twice yesterday while visiting Altea. I talked to the old lady who closed the church before we had the opportunity to visit.

Me: Perdon, señora. Cuando abierta la iglesia otra vez?
Old lady: Ahora voy a comer. Que es...una y media?
Me: Yeah (<- glitch, I know)
Old lady: Vuelvo a las dos, dos y media.
Me: Vale. Gracias.

Ok, there may be errors in my very short conversation, but the point is I spoke to her and we communicated without problems.

Afterwards I bought coffee; Tiene cafe para llevar? Esta bien. Un solo, por favor. Cuanto? [Uno y treinta] Gracias.

I don't know if I learned any new words yesterday. I cannot remember. Today on the other hand I have learned incendio and cohete and portavoz and several more. (I just realized I cannot get the accents when I type on here.... I need to find out how!)
